What DayGist doesn't do
Most finance products list features. This page lists the ones we deliberately left out. DayGist does one thing — texts you every bank balance, once a day — and the things it doesn't do are what keep that one thing honest.
If you searched for all your balances in one place without another app or dashboard to check — this is the design rationale.
No app
The product is a text message. There is nothing to download, update, or remember to open. If it gets SMS — iPhone, Android, flip phone — it works.
No dashboard
Dashboards need you to show up. The entire premise here is the opposite: the number comes to you. After setup, you never have to log in again.
No budgets or categories
Budgeting is real work, and good tools exist for it — YNAB and Monarch are excellent. DayGist only answers one question: where do you stand right now, across every account. If you want envelopes and categories, use a budgeting app (some people use both).
No stored balances
Your balances are fetched each morning, texted to you, and discarded. There is no history of your finances sitting in our database — nothing to breach, nothing to sell, nothing to quietly become a "feature" later.
No low-balance or transaction alerts
One text per day, at the time you pick. Nothing event-triggered, nothing that buzzes at 2pm because a coffee posted. If you want per-transaction alerts, your bank does that well — for that one bank.
No insights, scores, or advice
We don't categorize your spending, score your habits, or recommend anything. DayGist is an awareness tool, not a financial advisor. What you do with the number is yours.
No ads, no data monetization
The subscription is the entire business model. You pay for the text, so your data never has to pay the bill.
What's left after all that: one plain text, every morning, with every balance. Here's exactly how it works, including what we store (almost nothing) and what we discard (your balances, daily).
One text a day. That's the product.
15 days free, then $3.75/mo billed annually or $4.99/mo.
