Your bank balance by text, every morning
DayGist is a service that texts you your bank balances once a day — every checking account, savings account, and credit card you connect, across different banks, in one SMS. There is no app to download and nothing to check. The message just shows up at the time you pick.
If you searched for "an app that texts you your bank balance," this is that — minus the app.
What the text looks like
Good morning, Sam! Here's your DayGist: - Checking (Chase): $2,418 - Savings (Ally): $6,204 - Credit Card (Amex): ($673)
Plain text, no emoji, negatives in parentheses. Readable in five seconds, which is the point.
How it works
- 1Connect your accounts read-only through Plaid — takes about 60 seconds per bank.
- 2Pick the time you want your daily text, in your timezone.
- 3Every morning, DayGist fetches your balances, sends the text, and discards the data. Balances are never stored.
Doesn't my bank already do this?
Partly. Most banks offer text alerts for that one bank — Chase can text you your Chase balance, and nothing else. If everything you have lives at a single bank, honestly, use your bank's free alerts.
DayGist exists for everyone else: people whose money is spread across a checking account here, a savings account there, and two credit cards somewhere else. One message, every account, every morning — instead of four apps or four separate alert systems.
What it doesn't do
One text per day, at the time you pick. DayGist does not send low-balance alerts, transaction notifications, or anything event-triggered. It also isn't a budgeting app: no categories, no spending charts, no dashboard. If you want those, we keep an honest list of what we deliberately left out and what to use instead.
The full pipeline — what we fetch, what we store, what we discard — is on the how-it-works page.
What it costs
$3.75/month billed annually ($44.99/year), or $4.99 month to month. The first 15 days are free — a card is required, and you're charged on day 16 unless you cancel. Cancelling is replying STOP to any text. The subscription is the whole business model: you pay for the text, so your data never has to pay the bill.
Common questions
Is there an app that texts you your bank balance?
DayGist does exactly that — except there's no app. You connect your accounts once on the website, and from then on the balance text just arrives every morning. Nothing to install, open, or remember.
Does it work on any phone?
Any phone that can receive a text message: iPhone, Android, a flip phone, a Light Phone. If it gets SMS, it works.
Is it safe to connect my accounts?
Connections are read-only through Plaid, the same bank-connection service used by Venmo and Robinhood. Your bank login goes to Plaid, never to DayGist. We can see balances; we cannot move money. And after your text is sent each morning, the balance data is discarded — it is never stored.
Can I pick what time the text arrives?
Yes. You choose the delivery time during setup, in your own timezone, and can change it anytime. Most people pick early morning.
